Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Personnel Instructed to Refrain from Secret Talk in Cars.

An defence minister has stated that the MoD is currently investigating the potential threats posed by Chinese-made vehicles, while personnel have been told to refrain from discussing secret information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed claims that Ministry of Defence staff have been told not to talk about classified material while travelling in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, however stressed that safety is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones represent a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the growing risks of surveillance that are present in all automobile, to restrict those secret conversations in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for everyone worried about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to cease using all Chinese vehicles, the minister responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

This announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to switch off buses and bring chaos to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russia spy ship was reportedly directing lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, described as a “highly dangerous” act by defence officials.

The wider security situation highlights the significance of strong measures and caution in all areas of government operations, including transport use to discussions habits.
